Well shit…. is there anything that Telltale don’t get a license for that they cant turn to gold?
I mean Game of Thrones is a goldmine to begin with but this series, which revolves around the small Forrester Family of Ironwrath is so absorbing and immersive that it gets the exact same emotional responses as the characters from the show.
The gameplay is the same as the other episodic games they’ve done before this. With an enhanced point and click play style. The choice driven narrative unfolds with political intrigue, bloody violence and dark humour. The cell shading art style remains but this time its more oil and watercolour style than gritty comic book, it brings Westeros to life in a gloriously artistic manner that looks truly wonderful.
I did have some issues with the command prompts. I would hit the corresponding button and it would take an age to process or not process at all for a few of them which led to quite a few deaths that could have been avoided, although that could have been due to the power levels of the controller itself so I’m not sure if it’s a problem with the game.
The voice acting is as amazing as I have come to expect from these high quality episodic games. Cast members reprise their roles in their appearances, including Peter Dinklage, Lena Heady, Kit Harrington, and Emilia Clarke. The writing fits the world and the sound design is amazing.
I do however feel a little bit dissatisfied by the end of the season, there was no real closure. Which from the TV show and books I have come to expect, but I had no idea that they were going to be doing a Season 2 and as such felt a little pang of the hell is this?
In all though, if you’re a fan of the series then I think you’ll love this game. It’s full of hard decisions that actually matter and actually affect your standing with different characters. Which in turn decides how the game unfolds and ultimately ends. That feature gives this game a tremendous amount of replayability and it makes it that much deeper than other point and click adventure games.
Below is my complete experience playing the game. I hope you enjoy.
